Environmental Scientist

Niran Chaisiri

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Environmental scientist. Former Chiang Mai University. Studies the burning season because he grew up in it.

About

Niran Chaisiri spent twelve years researching atmospheric particulate matter at Chiang Mai University before leaving academia to work directly on crop burning mitigation. He grew up in Lampang province, where his family farmed rice, and has spent his career trying to reconcile what he knows as a scientist with what he experienced as a farmer's son. He writes about the burning season, air quality data, and the economics of Thai agriculture -- always with the data, always with the farmers in mind.
